The Soothing Magic of Lullabies
This winter solstice Devotional Voice workshop is centered around the meaning of lullabies and the vibrational gifts they bring. Delved into the profound spiritual and emotional, these gentle songs play a big role in human connection.
We will explore how lullabies, often passed down through generations, serve as more than just soothing melodies for children. They carry deep cultural, familial, and intimate significance, embodying expressions of love, protection, and comfort.
The devotional aspect of lullabies reveal how they can be seen as prayers, invoking a sense of peace, security, and spiritual bonding. Through a combination of discussion and musical exploration, Lucia and Lynda will explore how the voice can serve as a conduit for both personal devotion and universal heritage.
This 90 minute session will include:
+ A discussion about significance of lullabies in our world today.
+ Learning two lullabies (with lyrics and chords)
+ Vocal and personal self-care practices to guide one through the dark days of Winter
+ A video replay for one week after the workshop for drop in participants.
About Lucia Lilikoi
Lucia is a singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, composer, producer, sound-healer and educator from Sevilla, Spain, based between the San Francisco Bay Area and Los Angeles. Her distinct voice and lush arrangements are matched by elegant recordings in a genre she calls 'dream folk’. She’s also heavily influenced by Soul, trip-hop, and world music.
Lucia’s songs are songs of refuge; love poems to the earth, and explorations on the self. In the words of Jai Uttal, “her unmistakable voice and lush arrangements carry the current of divine beauty.
Over the years her music has led to studio and live collaborations with Sonic Devas, Grammy-winning producer Malcolm Burn (Bob Dylan, Jeff Buckley), Julie Wolf (Ani Difranco, Sia), Grammy-nominated Jai Uttal, music troubadour Murray Kyle, Jonathan Richman (The Modern Lovers), Joey Maramba (Rickie Lee Jones, John Cale), Lorca Hart (Meklit, Freddie Hubbard), Chris Haugen (Phil Lesh), and Sudhananda, amongst others.
She has dedicated her life to music; first trained as a classical pianist at the Madrid Conservatory, she then studied jazz at Berklee College of music, and vocal improvisation with luminaries Rhiannon and Bobby McFerrin.
When she is not writing, or performing, Lucia mentors students on her online portal, The Voice Lab, guiding singers to the blossoming of their own voice and connection to spirit.
Lilikoi’s songs have been featured alongside Rising Appalachia, Tina Malia, Deva Premal and Simrit. Her original music has been featured on tv shows (‘The L Word,’), and she’s scored music for documentary films (‘Sold in America,’ 2009, and ‘The Future of Energy,’ 2013, featuring luminary Buddhist ecologist, Joanna Macy). Lucia has performed her original music at prestigious venues all over the world, including The House of Blues Hollywood, The Alcázar of Sevilla, Natural High Healing Festival in Finland, Esalen in Big Sur, and Gibson Guitar Studios in London, to name a few.
